Meeta Patnaik, MD
Dr. Patnaik is a Managing Director at Transtek Clinical Systems Inc, a global personalized healthcare and life sciences commercialization company, where she is heads the personalized medicine, biomarker, and diagnostic initiatives. She is Vice President of Companion Diagnostics at The Laboratory Corporation of America (NYSE LH-LabCorp) where she leads the efforts in the development and commercialization of companion diagnostics tests from drug development programs to the clinic including regulatory and value based reimbursement strategies. During her twenty years experience in various aspects of laboratory medicine including immunology, infectious diseases, oncology, cardiovascular and metabolic diseases, She has overseen the development and commercialization of numerous new technologies and several hundred novel diagnostic assays which have generated hundreds of millions of dollars in revenue worldwide, including the first commercially available test for Hanta and West Nile viruses, HIV viral load, resistance and tropism testing, quantitative ISH and FISH testing and the first assays for BCR/ABL and gleevec resistance and the first commercialization of PCR, Invader, Mass Spec and multiplex technologies for both proteins and nucleic acids in the USA. She enabled several key alliances with major diagnostic and drug development partners in all areas of lab medicine. During this time she has been involved with several M&A transactions and integration processes.
In addition to the above, Dr Patnaik is working with several biotech and diagnostic companies in the USA and India as an advisor in their diagnostic programs and business development efforts, this involves laboratory accreditation, operations, reimbursement and menu build and commercial launch. Most recently she has participated in several FDA initiatives that involve the validation of and implementation of new molecular diagnostic tests and the appropriate submissions including IVDMIA, Companion Dx and other MDX products.
Dr. Patnaik founded Pathway Diagnostics, a pioneering biomarker company acquired by Quest Diagnostics in 2008, where she was chief science and technology officer. There she was responsible for all aspects of the development and commercialization of new diagnostic assays and was part of the licensing and IP team, as well as the fundraising efforts with venture groups and corporate partners.
Prior to founding Pathway Diagnostics, Patnaik held various senior scientific and leadership positions at Specialty Labs (acquired by Ameripath and Quest in 2007), including that of head of research and development and head of the international programs that included establishing laboratories in India, Egypt, Malaysia and Singapore. Dr. Patnaik received her Medical degree in 1986 and was a research fellow in immunology at the National Institute of Immunology in New Delhi, India and fellow in Infectious diseases at UCLA. She held long-term academic positions at the Department of Clinical Laboratory Sciences, establishing training programs for medical technologists in new technologies in the USA and in India at California State University, Dominguez Hills and the Department of Biotechnology, Microbiology and Immunology, University of California, Los Angeles.
Patnaik is also the author of over70 published scientific papers and journal articles and has presented papers at a number of professional and academic conferences, worldwide.
