Clifford S. Mintz, Ph.D.

Clifford S. Mintz, PhD is a seasoned bioscience professional with over 18 years of experience in drug discovery/development, biomanufacturing, commercialization and regulatory compliance.


He began his career as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Microbiology and Immunology at the University Of Miami School Of Medicine where he studied the molecular pathogenesis of intracellular pathogens including Legionella pneumophila and Mycobacterium tuberculosis. After leaving academia in the mid-1990s, he joined a small NJ-based, biotechnology company called Transcell Technologies where he headed an R&D group focused on antibiotic drug discovery. After two years at Transcell, Dr. Mintz become an independent management consultant who advised both public and privately-held biotechnology and medical devices companies on scientific and business matters including drug development and commercialization, M&A due diligence and patent reviews.


In 2003, Dr. Mintz helped to found Prolong Pharmaceuticals a protein PEGylation and drug delivery company specializing in biosimilar and new protein-based drug development. Prolong has raised over $20 million in venture capital funds since its inception.


At present, Dr. Mintz is a science advisor to several start-up biotechnology companies and an Adjunct Professor at the Georgetown University School of Medicine. He is an instructor in several biotechnology masters’ degree programs where he teaches product development, regulatory affairs and biomanufacturing. Dr. Mintz is also a professional science and medical write and a regular contributor to Life Science Leader a B2B business publication.


Cliff received a B.S. in microbiology/animal science from Cornell University, a Ph.D. in Bacteriology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and performed his post-doctoral studies at Oregon Health Sciences University and the College of Physicians & Surgeons, Columbia University. He is the author of over 20 peer-reviewed manuscripts and science publications.
