Michael d’Amato is an innovative, adaptable, and highly skilled business development leader with extensive experience developing businesses across the engineering, pharmaceutical, and medical device industries. Mr. d’Amato has an entrepreneurial career history of creating award-winning business plans, developing value propositions, identifying successful business opportunities, and recognizing new markets.
Prior to joining Katan Associates, Mr. d’Amato utilized his cross-disciplinary background and experience to advised his M&A clients about maximizing value and strategic advantages. As the Director of Operation for Invion, Inc. (ASX:INV), Mr. d’Amato established the US operations for the respiratory therapeutics company in less than three months. As the CEO of several startups, Mr. d’Amato raised over $15M of institutional capital for a structured finance company, raised $750k for a gene therapy company focused on curing Sickle Cell Disease, and established a research agreement with Genzyme that was critical for investor interest. Mr. d’Amato also in-licensed technology from the University of Pennsylvania for rapid DNA diagnostics and established the research team to validate the technology for investors.
Mr. d’Amato studied Microbiology (BS) and Mechanical Engineering (MS) at University of Rochester, where he pioneered an entrepreneurial program between the School of Engineering and the Simon School of Business. Mr. d’Amato served as Entrepreneur in Residence at Drexel University and mentored winning teams at both the Drexel and Wharton Business Plan Competition.
In his spare time, Mr. d’Amato resolved a flaw with ergonomic chairs by creating a solution to increase movement and decrease fatigue; then designed, built and licensed the Fluid Ribbon Chair to an Italy-based furniture manufacturer all in 18 months.
